  4. This file contains information on this release of GothaMail.  GothaMail
  5. is a Microsoft Windows 3.1 application that will read and send mail via
  6. KA9Q NOS (or some of its derivatives).  It is designed to operate with
  7. NOS running in a DOS window.  It also expects Windows to be running in
  8. enhanced mode (thus requiring at least a 386SX processor).

  10. GothaMail was developed by Dean S. Anderson (KA0MCM) of Gotha Software
  11. Systems.  It was written using Borland C++ 3.1 for Windows and OWL.
  12. GothaMail is free for anyone to use or copy as long as no fee is charged
  13. (except for media, not to exceed $10).  Currently, source code is not
  14. available (this may change in the future).

  34. Installation
  35. ------------

  37. 1) Copy gmail.exe to a directory on your hard disk.  
  38.  
  39. 2) Create a program manager entry pointing to the location you copied it to.  
  40.  
  41. 3) Execute it.

  43. 4) Select each entry in the 'Options' menu in turn, filling in each dialog
  44.    box.

  46. 5) You are ready to go!

  53. This is a maintenance version to fix two serious problems.  They are:
  54.  
  55.   - The mail file locks were not being created properly.  This could cause
  56.     file damage if GothaMail and NOS both tried to access the file at the
  57.     same time.  Symptoms of this problem were lost or damaged messages.
  58.     This is now fixed.

  60.   - If mail arrived while GothaMail had a mail file open and the 'File|
  61.     Save' option was selected, the new mail could be partially or completely
  62.     lost.  This has also been fixed.

  65. Changes in Version 0.4
  66. ----------------------

  68. This is the first non-beta release.  All previous versions have been beta
  69. test only.  All functions should operate properly, with the exception of
  70. the help facility.  Help was not implemented due to delays in getting this
  71. version distributed. The following is a list of added functionality that 
  72. may not be obvious to users of the previous version.

  74.   - It is now possible to select multiple messages in the main window
  75.     and perform operations on the group of messages selected (eg. Delete,
  76.     Move, Copy, etc.).

  78.   - The 'Messages'|'Reply To' menu selection will automatically build the
  79.     headers and subject lines.  This means you do not get the send headers
  80.     dialog box.  If you wish to edit the headers (eg. add more To: entries),
  81.     select the 'Edit'|'Headers...' menu option in the send window.

  83.   - You can now move or copy messages to another mail file by using the
  84.     'Messages'|'Move...' and 'Copy...' menu options.

  91. Versions prior to 0.4 are test and beta versions with various functions
  92. missing.  If you have a version prior to 0.4, don't use it, update it.
